For Girls Like Me
A Memoir
“Love didn’t come easily for girls like me, and I knew it…..”
After divorcing the same man twice, (each divorce lasting five years), Mary and her ex-husband, John, decide to get back together for a third time. But there is a problem. Still haunted by flashbacks from her past, she knows the only way to save her marriage is to go back home and face her demons head on. At age sixty-two, Mary knows this is her last chance. She needs to save what is left of her life before old age steals it away, and she needs to save what is left of her marriage before she takes off running again.
At its heart, For Girls Like Me is a story about hope, about one woman’s search for love, belonging, and identity. Sometimes finding what matters means groping around lost in the dark for a long, long time without losing hope that one day the light will break through. And when it does, it not only changes what you see, but how you feel about what you see. It changes everything.
A unique, character-driven portrait of the sanctity of family secrets, and the power of love to stand the test of time, For Girls Like Me takes you into a world like no other, leaving you with a broader sense of love and family in all its configurations, and in the end, what it means to truly forgive.
